JENNIFER LYONS Just like a storybook, Jennifer’s dance life started with men sweeping her around the floor with her little feet on their shoes. Of course all of this attention and the feeling like she could really dance was a dream come true! Both parents brought Jennifer ballroom dancing weekly, where she got asked to dance beginning at the age of 7. Week after week Jennifer happily hopped on everyone’s feet for the dance ride of her life! Before too long, she knew the name of every Ballroom and Latin dance, could recognized the beat and name the style of dance, and knew how to count all of the different timings for each dance. In her teens, although Jennifer never had a speaking role in the 15 plays her high school produced, she was a first pick dancer for her drama company in every play. At the age of 16, Jennifer started country line dancing with her Mom, and quickly established a dance partnership with the line dance instructor. Soon after they danced competitively in the country circuit Division IV. Still 16, Jennifer remembers going to a Ballroom studio dance party and was the "Bell of the Ball"! Again, no formal training, Jennifer never kept a chair warm all night. After 2 years straight of teacher training at 10 hours per week, Jennifer began teaching at the age of 18. After completing her studies in cosmetology and working full time as a hairdresser, she was also working for an independent local dance studio part time. After 8 years of committed dance, performances, student showcases and continued education at the studio, Jennifer now runs her own show independently out of The Bouffard Council North Providence, Rhode Island. Back in June of 2002 Jennifer decided to become a full time dance professional instructor and competitor. Currently Jennifer is competing in the Champion levels in the Swing circuit, and has a list of wins as long as Santa’s list. For those that know Jennifer personally or professionally, they say that teaching is a gift and Jennifer has the gift (to gab...no I mean) to teach with such quality in her instruction. If you have ever seen Jennifer dance socially, dance competitively, or teach any form of dance, her passion for dancing pours out of every inch of her body. She is enjoyed by all, and cares more for her students than can be imagined. The progress in her students is such a high for Jennifer; it’s a feeling she cannot describe. Jennifer helps each student find his or her internal “tick” or what makes him or her become alive. Jennifer’s internal tick clearly comes from teaching and dancing and she surely did not miss her calling! SARA BARKER I have always enjoyed dancing. As many young girls do, I started taking jazz and ballet. Then, when I was attending Emerson College I tried a class at Arthur Murray and got hooked on ballroom dancing. I continued on to pursue a degree in public relations and business management. My degree led to a job at a consulting firm, all the while, dancing as a hobby. After a life of trying different career paths I realized I was always going back to dancing. I decided to make dancing my life’s work. I obtained certification through the DVIDA program (Dance Vision International Dance Association) which is recognized by the National Dance Council of America. I now continue to compete, learn, and teach independently. CORY VINGI Young and vivacious, Cory is funny and passionate in his teaching, and energetic in his dancing! Cory began his dancing career after dancing through college with his Ballroom and Latin team. Although Cory has been teaching for years, he started with TwirlTheGirl in 2008. What a wonderful addition to our team to balance off all of the lovely females on staff! KIM FILIPPO
